Okay, here’s the blog post about my experience remaking the YSL Envelope Bag:
So, I’ve been seeing this YSL Envelope Bag all over the internet lately, and let me tell you, I was hooked. The real one is way out of my budget, but I’m pretty crafty, so I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?” And that’s exactly what I did.
First, I started by looking everywhere online to see pictures of the original one. Then, I began looking for materials. I found some leather that looked pretty similar to the original, but it was still kinda pricey. After some more digging, I stumbled upon some faux leather that was a good dupe and way more affordable. I also needed a chain for the strap, some magnetic snaps for the closure, and some fabric for the lining.
Gathering the Supplies
- Faux leather – I found a nice textured one that looked pretty close to the real thing.
- Chain – I opted for a gold-toned one to match the classic YSL look.
- Magnetic snaps – These are essential for that satisfying “click” when you close the bag.
- Lining fabric – I chose a simple black fabric, but you could really use anything here.
Once I had all my materials, I started by cutting out the pieces. I am not gonna lie, this part was tricky. I had to sketch out a pattern based on the pictures I’d seen online, and let’s just say, it took a few tries to get it right. After I cut out the leather, I sewed the main pieces together. This was actually easier than I thought it would be, even with my old sewing machine. Then came the lining, which was a bit more fiddly. I wanted to make sure it looked neat on the inside.
The hardest part was probably attaching the magnetic snaps. I had to be super precise so that they lined up perfectly. I messed this up the first time and had to redo it, but hey, that’s part of the process, right? Adding the chain was the final step. I attached it to the sides of the bag, and boom, it was starting to look like a real YSL Envelope Bag!
After all that work, I have to say, I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it definitely gives off that YSL vibe without breaking the bank. Plus, it was a fun project to work on. I used my new bag on the * you’re thinking about trying to make one yourself, I say go for it! Just be prepared to spend some time on it and maybe make a few mistakes along the way. But in the end, you’ll have a unique bag that you can be proud to say you made yourself.
That is all! Thanks for reading about my little DIY adventure. I might try tackling another designer bag remake in the future. Any suggestions?
