Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make this YSL College bag for a while now, and I finally got around to doing it. This is gonna be a long one, so grab a snack and buckle up!
First things first, I needed to gather all my materials. I already had some good quality leather lying around from a previous project, so that was a good start. I went online and searched for the patterns of this bag, and fortunately, I found some free resources. I printed them out, but I realized that I also needed some sturdy cardboard to make the base of the bag. A quick trip to the local craft store, and I had everything I needed.
- Leather – got it
- Lining fabric – checked my fabric stash, found a nice silky one
- Cardboard – from the craft store
- Metal hardware – ordered online, took a few days to arrive
- Thread, needles, glue – already had these
With everything ready, I started by cutting out the leather pieces. Following the patterns, you know. This took some time, gotta be precise, or the bag won’t look right. The smell of fresh-cut leather is just something else, isn’t it? After cutting, I used a leather skiver to thin down the edges that would be folded over. Made it look a lot neater.
Next up, I glued the leather pieces to the cardboard base. This step was crucial to give the bag its shape and sturdiness. The glue needed some time to dry, so I took a break and watched some TV, just chilling for a bit.
Once the glue was dry, it was time for the sewing. I used a saddle stitch, which is super strong and looks really professional. It’s a bit time-consuming, but totally worth it. Sewing leather is tough, let me tell you. My fingers were sore, but I pushed through. Seeing the bag take shape was such a rewarding feeling, you know.
The lining was next. I cut and sewed the silky fabric I had chosen earlier. It felt so smooth and luxurious. Attaching the lining to the bag was a bit tricky, but I managed. Had to be careful not to wrinkle it. A little hand-sewing here and there, and it was done.
The final step was attaching the hardware. The chain strap, the YSL logo, and the magnetic closure – these little details make all the difference. It was a bit fiddly, especially getting the logo perfectly centered. But I took my time, and it turned out great.
Finally
And there it was – my very own handmade YSL College bag! It took a lot of time, effort, and a few sore fingers, but it was totally worth it. It looks amazing, if I do say so myself. Plus, I saved a ton of money by making it myself instead of buying it. Now, I have a unique, stylish bag that I can proudly say I made with my own hands. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and that’s what matters.
If you’re thinking about making one yourself, go for it! It’s a challenging but rewarding project. Just be prepared for some hard work and a lot of satisfaction when you’re done. Trust me, it’s worth it.
