Okay, so, I got this idea the other day. I was looking at all the fancy bags in my closet and thought, “Why not try to make one myself?” And not just any bag, but one like those super classy Yves Saint Laurent COLLEGE bags they sell in the fancy stores. I’ve always liked their style, you know, really chic and simple. So I decided to give it a shot.
First, I looked up a bunch of stuff about these YSL bags online. Just wanted to see what I was getting myself into. There are so many pictures of these bags, and descriptions of what they’re made of, like lambskin, and calfskin, and some shiny metallic stuff. I even checked out those websites where they sell used designer bags to see what those looked like up close. But I did not click any url from the search results.
Then I started sketching. I’m no artist, but I doodled what I thought the bag should look like. I wanted it to have that same elegant vibe as the real YSL bags, with a flap and a simple lock. I also thought about the size – not too big, not too small, just right for carrying around my everyday stuff.
Next up, I had to pick the material. I remembered reading that some of these bags are made of lambskin, which sounds super soft, but I figured that might be hard to work with. So, I went to a local fabric store and looked around. I ended up choosing a nice, sturdy piece of leather. It wasn’t as soft as lambskin, but it felt like it would hold up well.
- Started cutting the leather according to my sketches. This was the trickiest part. I had to be really careful not to mess up. I slowly cut out the front and back pieces, the sides, and that all-important flap.
- Then came the sewing. Now, I’m okay with a needle and thread, but I’m no pro. I decided to hand-stitch the whole thing because I thought it would give it a more personal touch. Plus, I didn’t want to risk messing it up with a sewing machine.
- Stitching the bag together took forever, but it was kind of relaxing, in a way. I put on some music, made some coffee, and just sewed away. I made sure each stitch was tight and neat because I wanted the bag to last.
The last step was adding the hardware. I found some metal pieces at a craft store that looked pretty similar to the ones on the real YSL bags. I attached a simple lock to the flap and added some rings on the sides for the strap.
The Result
And there it was – my homemade version of a YSL COLLEGE bag. It wasn’t perfect, but I was really proud of it. It had that classy look I was going for, and it felt great to carry around something I made with my own hands. Sure, it’s not the same as buying one from a fancy store, but it’s special in its own way. And who knows, maybe I’ll try making another one someday!
