So, I was surfing the web the other day, and I stumbled upon this YSL ENVELOPE BAG. It’s a fancy bag, no doubt. Looks like an envelope, just like the name says. But boy, oh boy, the price tag on this thing! It’s like they think we’re all made of money.
I thought to myself, “There’s got to be a way to get this look without selling a kidney.” That’s when I decided to roll up my sleeves and get crafty. I mean, I’ve sewed a button or two in my time, how hard could it be to make a bag, right?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find some material. I didn’t want to use real leather, because, you know, animals and all that. Plus, it’s expensive! So, I went to the local fabric store and found some pretty decent-looking faux leather. It had that nice sheen, just like the real deal.
- Gathering supplies: I picked up some thread, a heavy-duty needle, and some of those metal snap buttons. I even found a chain strap in my old junk drawer. Score!
- Making a pattern: This was the tricky part. I took some measurements from the pictures online and sketched out a pattern on some old newspaper. It took a few tries to get it right, but hey, that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?
Sewing It Up
Now came the fun part – sewing! I dusted off my grandma’s old sewing machine, the one that’s probably older than me. It took a bit of fiddling to get it working, but soon enough, I was stitching away like a pro. Or at least, I thought I was.
- Stitching the pieces: I sewed the main body of the bag first, then the flap. It wasn’t perfect, some of the stitches were a bit wonky, but it was starting to look like a bag!
- Adding the details: I attached the snap button to the flap, so it would close properly. Then, I carefully sewed the chain strap to the sides of the bag. This was the most nerve-wracking part, but I managed to do it without sewing my fingers together.
The Finishing Touch
The last step was to add that iconic YSL logo. I didn’t want to copy it exactly, because that’s just not cool. So, I made my own little logo out of some leftover faux leather. It wasn’t as fancy, but it was unique, just like me.
And there you have it! My very own, homemade “envelope” bag. It may not be a real YSL, but it’s got character, and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Plus, I got to learn a new skill and have some fun along the way. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a new trend – DIY designer bags!
